"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." (Matt. 6:24 NKJV).
The Lord's call so discipleship is a call to an abandoned life- a life lived, no longer for self, but for Him and His holy cause. His call is to pursue His will with passion and with singleness of mind.
Sadly, most Christians fail to sever ties with things of the world. They pollute their souls with worldly, even ungodly, entertainment, they are more give to pursuits of pleasure than to seeking a closeness with God, they consume the blessings of the Lord upon their own desires rather than using them to reach the world with the Gospel; and then complain that their spiritual lives seem so unfulfilling!
If we are not genuinely enjoying our walk with the Lord, just maybe we need the Holy Spirit to use His sword, the word of God, to perform "heart surgery" upon us!
Are we trying to get all that we can out of this world, and serve the Lord at the same time? We need to realize that this is an impossibility!
Real joy and sense of purpose are found in a "sold out" walk with the Lord, glorying in the cross, by which we are crucified unto the world, and the world to us.
May we have ears to hear.
