A Time To Weep

Throughout this week I want to share some thoughts from 1 Samuel chapter 30 which will help us navigate the times of trouble that will surely come our way.

In this chapter we find David and his men returning to Ziklag, which was there home during this particular time, only to find it in ruins and all of their family members had been taken captive.

Realize that at this point in David's life he had been anointed to be king over God's people, but was living as a fugitive; and now, this tragedy overtakes him!

You see, it doesn't matter what our calling might be, we will meet with some major storms in this life. Jesus said that the fool built upon the sand; the wise built upon the rock, yet storms came into both lives!

So, what do we do in such times? How are we to handle such disappointments and tragedies?

There come those times when we need to give vent to the emotions that are welling up from within. This chapter tells us that these mighty men of war lifted up their voices and wept until they had no more power to weep. The Lord made us with feelings and emotions that need expression at times, and there is a time to weep.

This is nothing to be ashamed of. These were might warriors, yet, when the occasion called for it, they were not afraid to openly express the grief that the felt!

Tomorrow I hope to unfold this passage a little further, but, for today, I believe that some need to know that weeping is not necessarily a breech of faith: It is, rather, a God-given expression of pain and disappointment that can have a cleansing effect as we allow it to flow within the boundaries of Scriptural teaching.

As for the rest of the Church- we are told to weep with those who weep.

Be assured that there are brighter days ahead as we seek and serve the Lord.

God bless.
